St. Luke's Cataract & Laser Institute is a premier cataract and intraocular lens practice made up of experienced and caring medical professionals. One of the world's foremost authorities on cataract surgery, Dr. James Gills, the founder and director of St. Luke's, has performed more cataract and lens implant surgeries than any other surgeon in the world. His innovations, which have helped to make cataract surgery more comfortable and more precise than ever, include no-stitch cataract surgery, no-needle anesthesia, intraocular antibiotics to prevent post-surgical infection, and intraocular anesthesia. Dr. Pit Gills works alongside his father, expertly performing cataract surgery and various refractive procedures. Today, Dr. James Gills and Dr. Pit Gills work together, continuing to offer patients the utmost in eye care. Both father and son continuously evaluate new techniques and equipment, helping to maintain St. Luke's position as one of the leading ophthalmology practices in the world. St. Luke's highly skilled medical team cares for patients in our state-of-the-art offices and performs surgery at our private surgical center. We go out of our way to ensure that our patients leave St. Luke's completely satisfied with their eye care experience.
Dr. James Gills heads St. Luke's medical staff, which is made up of physicians, physician assistants, and optometrists. In addition to cataract surgery, the ophthalmologists at our Florida practice offer a number of other procedures, including retina surgery and refractive surgery. We also have a cosmetic surgeon on staff who skillfully performs a wide range of cosmetic procedures. Every member of our staff is committed to meeting your needs and helping to make your experience as pleasant as possible. For more information about our staff members, visit our doctors and staff page.
St. Luke's Cataract & Laser Institute is one of the largest freestanding ambulatory eye care centers in the United States. Our ophthalmologists serve patients at four Florida locations: Tarpon Springs, Tampa, St. Petersburg, Spring Hill, and Bayonet Point. Our main office in Tarpon Springs includes a 26,000 square-foot surgical center with six operating rooms and a twenty-bed recovery room. For more information about St. Luke's facilities, visit our offices page.
St. Luke's is dedicated to maintaining a high standard of care while keeping costs as low as possible for our patients. Performing surgery at our freestanding surgery center is one way we save our patients money. Unlike many hospital-associated surgery centers, our outpatient facility fee includes all medications and supplies used in surgery. Studies have shown that this saves patients and insurance companies up to 35%.
Our practice also places a great deal of value on patient education. In addition to the information available on this website, we supply patients with printed information and videos and offer weekly eye surgery seminars.
St. Luke's Cataract & Laser Institute is pleased to be a memeber of the Tampa Bay Eyecare Network, an educational, nonprofit organization established in 1993. Members include hundreds of optometrists throughout the state of Florida. The network holds yearly medical conferences where attendees receive continuing education credits.
