LASIK

QUESTION: IS LASIK SURGERY SAFE?

ANSWER: YES, LASIK IS A VERY SAFE SURGICAL PROCEDURE.

It has been around for 20 years and was approved by the Food & Drug Administration in 1999. Over 19 million LASIK procedures have been performed in the U.S. with a very high patient satisfaction rate.  In fact, a recent study on quality of life after LASIK was conducted by the FDA, Department of Defense, and National Eye Institute. The study is called PROWL -2 (Patient Reported Outcomes With LASIK) and it showed that 96% of patients were satisfied with their LASIK procedure. According to the American Refractive Surgery Council, the complication rate is less than 1%, which makes it one of the safest elective procedures today.

St. Luke’s is a world-renowned eye care facility with a surgical center dedicated to ophthalmic procedures. With LASIK, we carefully measure your personal anatomy and vision in the pre-operative evaluation. Next, we use that data to program a computer-driven laser to reshape the cornea with maximum precision.  This technology allows us to deliver a custom treatment for each eye that is treated.  In addition, our entire team of eye care professionals is carefully trained and highly experienced. You are literally in good hands at St. Luke’s.
