My grandmother had cataract surgery there many yrs ago with Dr. Gills Sr. doing the work. She had a pleasant experience and not one problem since the procedure. She could read anything without glasses and was able to see great her entire lifetime since. I took my mom there a few yrs back and she had the same surgery with Dr. Gills Jr. Not a problem at all! She was able to see very well considering she had an underlying eye problem we were not aware of. But they made sure she was able to see well enough without glasses when she left. My husband had an emergency a while back and was about to have a detached retina. They did the procedure and managed to save his sight in that eye. He has one eye done since he developed a cataract on it and he sees great. Always wore glasses too. Now he is developing a cataract in his other eye. He just came home and said they will watch it since he doesn't need the second eye done right now. I say this is an excellent place to come despite the bad reviews. Sure they are busy. They have a lot of patients since they are the best. I wouldn't trust my eyes to anyone else.

This institute is amazing. The process of cataract surgery here feels like something out of science fiction. It runs like clockwork from step to streamlined step all perfectly choreographed for maximum efficiency and effectiveness. There can be no doubt that one is in the very best hands possible from start to finish. It is evident from a glance around the waiting rooms that people from other countries are willing to travel considerable distances for this expert care. In my husband's case, a retinal hemorrhage 50 years ago left him with only peripheral eyesight in one of his eyes. Doctors had warned him through the years that when ihe developed cataracts he might have difficulty finding a doctor who would perform the surgery given the fact that any error could mean complete blindness. Dr. Pit Gills reviewed his particulars and took him on with no hesitation. Citing his experience with similar cases he said that he was certain he could help my husband. We have been decidedly pleased with the results.

Extremely professional staff of Doctors, and Physician Assistants. The nursing staff I had when going into surgery was the Very Best.! I couldn't have asked for any better. The volunteer was Super. However, when going for a check up, the wait is soooo long. I've been late and waited, (understandably) I've been on time and yes, even early yet, the wait is still long. BUT THE CARE IS WORTH IT. !!

My last visit to St. Luke's was to obtain another prescription for my ophthalmic solution as my supply was nearly used up and I did not anticipate my mail order resupply would arrive before that happened. My physician, Dr. Gamero, was not working that day to authorize a new prescription. Yet the clerk at the reception desk was not going to let me leave without remedying my predicament and my having to return the next day. Unfortunately, I do not recall her name. But she went the extra mile to ensure I was able to get a refill to tide me through until my mail order arrived, for which I am very grateful. Her professional and caring response to my predicament parallels my experience with all the staff members in the years I have been a patient at St. Luke's.

From the moment I stepped through the doors, I was greeted by someone in person and walked through the sign in process. After a short wait in a seating area, someone else arrived to do some testing on my eyes. Another person made a further evaluation and then I was led to another waiting area. In a very few minutes, Dr. Gill came in and told me what he was going to do to my eyes. He answered all of my questions and gave me some options. After that I was led downstairs to the surgical waiting area until I was called to be prepped for my procedure. The nurses were very caring and soothed any jittery feelings that patients might be expressing. The surgery was quick. I don't remember anything until I was in the recovery area. After a rest in my hotel during the afternoon, we went out for dinner and then repeated the process the following day. I loved being able to do it all in two days. My sight is wonderful, and the world is so much more colorful than I remember. It was definitely worth the trip from California to Florida for the surgery!
