Schirmer Testing
OVERVIEW
This
test
is
used
to
assess
tear
production
and
is
helpful
in
treating dry
eye
syndrome. Tiny paper tabs are inserted in the lower lids and removed after a few minutes. When the tab is removed, the dampened area is measured in millimeters. This helps the doctor determine the presence or extent of a dry eye condition.
