          Courage In Trials

Romans 8:37-39.  “Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

This is a wonderful passage that every believer needs in order to make it through his or her trials.  We need to know that God will make us more than conquerors and that nothing can separate us from the Lord.

One of the reasons we need to know this is because we forget it in the sense that we don’t feel it.  We feel our trials and are occupied with them and focus on our difficulties, our lackings or failings, fears, shame, people or problems. Sometimes we are so disoriented that we don’t know what is bothering us. Or we do not know why we feel the way we do. But God’s love is going out toward us at all times if we only would bring it to mind and seek its comfort  by faith. This would strengthen us to go on.

In this passage Paul makes a confession: “I am persuaded!” Then he throws out a challenge: “Who shall separate us?” Then he proclaims his great reason for confidence: The cause of this invincible help from God against any obstacle and in any difficulty is the reality that we are “in Christ Jesus” and this means that He is the bond that binds us to God!

Therefore, lets ask ourselves these questions: Is your life one of union and communion between you and Christ?  Is the love of God your portion?  Do  you realize that He gives Himself to you when He extends His love to you as a believer?  Are you learning more and more not to lose sight of these great truths in all your trials?  Are you more and more watchful lest inroads are made that will dim and weaken your first love?

If this is our great confidence and strength, then let’s keep it near our hearts. Let’s believe what God says in this portion of His Word. Let this be the source of your courage in the midst of the trials you are going through at this time.  May God make it so!
