The Stewardship Of The Soul
For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul? (Mark 8:36-37)

The soul is a beautiful stewardship from God and the temple of the Holy Spirit for believers.
The soul has the God-given faculties that enable us to relate to our world and to one another. This is our stewardship of mind, emotions, imaginations, memories, education, affections, attitudes, etc.
The soul or spirit of man when regenerated by the Holy Spirit gives us a God-given capacity to know Him. There is now a God-ward inclination of the soul. According to the Bible, to know God and be loved by Him is that which energizes all of life. This only comes by a life of faith. True life-changing faith at its root has a very specific focus: it must be a resting in His redemption! In other words, when Jesus said, “It is finished” (John 19:30) on the cross. He paid for all of the sins of all who will believe on Him. Faith says, “I rest in His death for my salvation. This is God’s appointed way to receive forgiveness and new life with God as my Father.”
This resting in God’s redemption is the main reality of life. The rest of life is an encircling of the “quickened soul.” This encircling helps us to avoid the diversions that are like thorns which will choke the Word of God and make it unfruitful in our lives (Mark 4:19).
Just having right notions in our head is not a living faith, it is merely having orthodox notions. Life-changing faith comes from resting our whole heart in His redemption. It is believing His promises are true for me. It brings the enlivening power of the Holy Spirit. It brings the fruit of joy, peace, hope, and being filled with the love of God. As David said, “The Lord is the strength of my life.” (Psalm 27:1). This is the quintessence of the life of stewardship concerning the soul. Our heart must be wrapped up with the Lord Jesus or we have wasted it and are poor stewards. The best things in life flow from this fountain. May we leave our mark on this world by leaving this legacy to those who know us: ‘You taught me that the full enjoyment of life flows from resting in His Redemption.’ This is true stewardship of the soul.
