Dr. Gills Honored
with Humanitarian Award

James P. Gills,
founder and director of St. Luke's Cataract and Laser Institue
in Tarpon Springs, was the recipient of the Duke
Medical Alumni Association's 2005 Humanitarian Award. The presentation was made at
the 75th anniversary celebration dinner and alumni
awards ceremony on October 28th in Durham, NC.
This award has only been presented to 10
individuals in the history of the university.
This
prestigous award is presented on occasion to an alumnus or
faculty member for outstanding lifelong service to
society. As a Duke colleague has commented, "Whether in
health care, eye surgery, business, fitness, community
activities, spiritual activities, or his complete life, Dr.
Gills is grounded in seeking to persue a mission in life
to make the lives of his felllow men and women more
fulfilling."
