St. Luke’s Cataract and Laser Institute’s main office is located in Tarpon Springs, Florida, with three satellite offices in three surrounding counties.  Founder James P. Gills, M.D. heads our medical staff which consists of medical doctors, physicians assistants and optometrists. The Tarpon Springs location consists of 52,000 square feet of clinic area, adjacent to our 26,000 square foot ambulatory surgery center. St. Luke’s Surgical Center, Inc. is licensed by the State of Florida and certified by Medicare. It houses six operating rooms and a twelve-bed recovery room. In recognition of our commitment to high quality care and substantial compliance with the standards for ambulatory health care organizations, the surgical center is accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care, Inc. (AAAHC).

Unlike many hospital-associated surgery centers, our outpatient facility fee includes all supplies and medications used during surgery. In the past year, studies have shown that this amounts to a 35% cost savings for patients and insurance companies. We provide affordable quality care for our patients in the comfort of a freestanding ambulatory surgery center.

We specialize in cataract surgery, refractive surgery (LASIK, CLEAR, LTK, PRK), corneal transplants, vitreo-retinal surgery,  and glaucoma procedures. By routinely using topical anesthesia and self-sealing incisions for our cataract surgery patients, we provide a more comfortable procedure with the added plus of a reduced rehabilitation period and quick visual recovery.

St. Luke’s takes pride in educating patients through printed information, video and laser disc presentations, and weekly seminars on advanced methods of eye surgery and treatments.

Several years ago, St. Luke’s Cataract and Laser Institute established the educational, nonprofit organization, St. Luke’s EyeCare Network, Inc. Members include St. Luke’s medical staff and over one hundred optometrists throughout the State of Florida. The network presents yearly medical conferences where attendees receive continuing education credits. The St. Luke’s EyeCare Network, Inc. provides increased quality and availability of services in your community.

The skill and dedication of our staff continue to strengthen St. Luke’s reputation as a quality care facility. Always striving to be even better, we constantly seek new ways to bring improved and more cost-effective care to our patients.
